Every year I come down we go out to see the whale sharks outside of El Mogote. The trip I made yesterday with my wife and kids was by far the best.

We went out with a Marine Biologist who has been studying this population of whale sharks for years. Even though we had seen them before we never had an experience like this. We learned the animal's name and how many years it had been coming back and if they were male or females. All of this we did far way from the the tourist boats and cruisers who didn't seem to respect the animals or their clients.

We even paid less and the money spent went to further the research and paid for their ongoing satellite tagging.

I wanted to share with the group this wonderful experience my family had with a local marine biologist and the whale sharks. His name is Pablo and he has studied the whale sharks for years here in La Paz. We went out with him today and found whale sharks and swam with them and he shared his experience and we learned SO much.
We have done this before with the tourist boats and on a private boat and there is no comparison. Pablo explained about the animals, their ecology and migration and how people who go out there without knowing what they are doing are actually harming the sharks with their boats and propellors as well as disturbing their feeding.
