Update:
The NHAP has been working on the Ventana Bay Science and Art Museum Park Enhancement Project at the Telesecundaria #10 in El Sargento this summer. We also have begun the first phase of the Blue Whale Skeleton Sculpture. Yes, it is going to be built. Unfortunately, the beautiful display of Blue Whale ribs has been removed from the Pavilion, but they are moving on to their own majestic presentation. The touch tank was also moved to a new location and that was something to witness. To make optimal use of the Pavilion we are presently turning it into a Museum/Classroom. Here science classes and presentations will be offered and we will be able to work on smaller specimens and display them in a safer environment. A friend from CIBNOR Research Center has offered to assist us in putting on a once a month “Science Café” where a different presentation, based on science, will be offered to the public. You can Google Science Cafes to see where we are going with this. We have also received the permit and are in the process of collecting the bones of a Sperm Whale that died on the south beach this past May. So we will have one baleen and one toothed whale exhibited. Except for the scull (see photo) these bones are much more handler friendly.
We are about to complete the block and concrete part of the project then wait the required 60 days for the cement to cure before painting, at least one of the murals will be out of this world but for future anticipation. We have had a generous outpouring of help from the local businesses but the largest block of cement promised has not arrived and as usual all material prices have gone up since pricing the project out so we are coming to the end of our funds. Therefore, I am asking if anyone wants to be a part of this special project - now is the time. Contact Mary Sim at 114 0205 or simmarybill@hotmail.com Gracias
