Epsom Salt on Tomato Plants
Step 1
Apply 1/2 cup Epsom salt to the soil when the tomato plant begins to bloom. Hoe it in lightly and water for 10 minutes.
Step 2
Apply 1 tbsp. Epsom salt per foot of plant height to the soil, wet or dry. Repeat every two weeks during the growing season.
Step 3
Mix 1 tsp. Epsom salt in a spray bottle with clean water. Spray on leaves to discourage tomato-loving insects.
Ammonia on Tomato Plants
Step 1
Mix 2 cups vinegar, 1 cup ammonia and 5 gallons of water in a bucket.
Step 2
Sprinkle lightly over plants when they begin to flower and set fruit.
Step 3
Repeat the above process every two weeks for six weeks.

Re: grow your own
I compost in B.C. all summer and I use wire mesh. It needs to be strong enough to be free standing. we connect it with wire so it is like a circular column 24 inches in diameter and 36 or more inches high. We just put all our organic in it and it breaks down and you can see the compost dirt formed on the bottom then you can pick it up and start a new spot. You must keep it damp so dump all your wet stuff in too. No meat products , corn husks , bone. Paper towel, egg shells, coffee grounds, tea bags all go in. It may attract flies in Baja so put it where you don`t want to be bothered. It is simple, really. Just common sense. Google compost gardens because there is a technique wherby people grow veggies on compost piles. I haven`t done that. I think the barrels would end up with a mucky, soupy , stinky liquid. It is important to have lots of air and moisture to create a microbial breakdown. Good Luck , I think the gardening bit might be fun. Eat Local!
my reply, The metal drum I saw had thousands of holes in it i did not note the size. They had it on a spindle so you turn it every so often, They said all the good stuff falls through the holes, and it was right at their garden. And they were located in LaPaz. A plastic drum is easy to drill just takes a lot of time, where I would not want to ever try to do a metal drum..
I would also like some pictures.

composting
We have had very sporadic garbage pick up, it has been told to me that some workers have not been paid in 5 months. And also that the money to pay government workers in full till February. So that people are not caught off guard start doing research into composting.
What I need is some suggestions/guidance from people who already are experienced composters.
Just throwing this out I have seen people over the years with modified plastic 55 gallon drums. Plastic 55 gallon barrels are available but not unlimited in LaPaz. If these are a good system I can have a local here make them for people so as they hit town they can pick up.
Here is an article in spanish on the subject strike by the workers. It does not translate well with google translate.

Also note maybe one size does not fit all. What are the options.
Here is my google search,
this seems like a nice way to garden...
