seems it did not work as they are now releasing more this year. That's what I had predicted because this is a desert hard to keep the infected stock viable with so little rain over the year.

It will seek to repopulate the polygons of colonies to the south and center of La Paz, with Wolbachia flies; this, to avoid the transmission of dengue

La Paz, Baja California Sur (BCS). In March, a strategy will be implemented to strengthen the program wolbachian in the colonies of Peace where a greater number of patients with dengue was detected, in 2022; 2 polygons will be covered, that is, about 30 areas to the south and center of the capital of Baja California Sur.
The placement of zancukits will be carried out, which are containers that have capsules with mosquito eggs with wolbachianwhich receive water for their evolution to the adult stage.

The official commented that they seek to generate native specimens that can no longer infect people due to viral diseases such as dengue, reported the head of the Ministry of Health (SSA), Zazil Flores Aldape.
-
The packages are placed in open spaces of 2 polygons, which cover 30 colonies of Peace; this, taking into consideration the presence of mosquitoes with Wolbachia and the places where 60% of the confirmed cases were reported.
“This preventive health strategy is based on a scientific development from the University of monash in australia which introduces a harmless bacterium called wolbachian to mosquitoes Aedes aegypti, to prevent them from transmitting the dengue, Zika and chinkungunya viruses,” said the official.
Finally, Aldape Flowers He explained that work is being done in the first quarter of the year to achieve repopulation in areas, before the rainy season begins, which is the period in which risks increase.

An outbreak of 14 dengue cases is detected in Baja California Sur
It was confirmed that serotype 3 of this condition is currently circulating in the entity, which had not been detected for 19 years.

La Paz, Baja California Sur. (OEM-Informex).- During the rainy season, water accumulates in pots that end up serving as incubators for the mosquito that transmits dengue, Zika and chikungunya.
Due to the above, the increase in cases has recently been announced, including the Baja California Sur Health Secretariat has confirmed an outbreak of dengue with 14 infected people, of which 12 cases were "non-serious", however 2 of the patients presented warning signs.
MUNICIPALITIES
In this regard, the Director of State Health Services, Ana Luis Guluarte Castro, announced that, so far there have been 20 cases of this condition throughout the state, "fortunately the rest of the cases that are not part of this outbreak there have not been cases of severe dengue," he stressed.
The state public servant indicated that studies carried out have confirmed that serotype 3 of this disease currently circulates in Baja California Sur, which had not been detected for 19 years, in 2003.
Dengue is a disease caused by a virus and is transmitted to people by the bite of the mosquito that carries the disease, which is not transmissible from person to person, and there is currently no vaccine to combat it.
MUNICIPALITIES
They will carry out fumigation against flies in Los Cabos
According to data from the Ministry of Health, until September 2022, 20 cases of dengue have been registered, compared to 26 in 2020; 89 of the year 2019; the 180 of 2018 and the almost 5 thousand of 2015.
To avoid the generation of flies, the Ministry of Health calls on citizens to apply the "wash, cover, turn and throw" strategy in their homes, since it is one of the main actions to follow to eliminate Aedes mosquito breeding sites. aegypti, whose bite can transmit dengue, Zika and chikungunya.
The larval control brigades maintain a daily tour of those colonies where the ovitraps (which make it possible to quantify the eggs deposited by the female insects) show a greater presence of the insect.
MUNICIPALITIES
The decacharrization campaign begins
With the authorization of the neighbors, the health personnel that make up these teams enter the homes to apply lavicide in the water containers and to help the settlers to eliminate ponding.

Although a fumigation cycle is underway in La Paz, it is important to remember that this measure only impacts adult specimens of the fly, without having any effect on the larvae, hence the importance of adding citizen efforts in basic sanitation to reduce breeding opportunities for this noxious fauna.
Finally, rainfall favors flooding that serves as artificial breeding grounds for these insects, hence the importance of the population carrying out basic sanitation tasks in patios, gardens and rooftops, to inhibit the presence of mosquitoes.

Communities in Mexico adopt the Wolbachia method of the World Mosquito Program
05/08/2019
Recent outbreaks of dengue in various parts of the world and a rapid increase in the number of Zika cases imply a significant burden on communities. Mosquito-borne diseases exert financial pressure on families because sick people can not work, attend school and family members often need to take time to care for their loved ones. The above has been studied at a global level, the investigations concluded that families cover up to 45% of the global cost of dengue, which can triple the monthly cost invested in their home when caring for a member affected by dengue 1 .
In La Paz, BCS, the community has historically suffered several dengue outbreaks. This, together with other factors, was reason for the World Mosquito Program (WMP) to arrive in Mexico for the first time. After extensive community participation and public acceptance activities carried out in 2018, the first phase of mosquito releases with Wolbachia began in the city of La Paz. More than 1,800 members of the community are showing their support for the project by volunteering to host the "Zancu Kit" in their homes.
Local residents sign up to host Zancu KITs with the help of WMP staffLocal residents register to receive the Zancu Kits with the help of WMP staff
The WMP Project Manager for Mexico, Frederico Muzzi, thanks the community for the support that allows the development and success of our Wolbachia method in La Paz:
"The great heroes of this project and those who make our work possible are all the citizens of Baja California who have joined the project, either participating in one of our 330 events organized by the community participation team, listening or reading about the Wolbachia method , Showing interest with your questions and comments, or being volunteers. Our great thanks is to all who have had confidence in the project and decided to volunteer by hosting 'Zancu Kits' in the yard, garden or trees of their homes, "said .
The Zancu Kits can be placed in shaded areas in volunteer gardens
The Zancu Kits are cardboard containers that house mosquito eggs, water is added and after 2 or 3 weeks the eggs hatch and the adult mosquitoes fly away. The mosquitoes with Wolbachia breed with the local population of mosquitoes, so over time the percentage of mosquitoes with Wolbachia increases. Mosquitoes with Wolbachia have a reduced capacity to transmit viruses to people, thus decreasing the risk of Zika, dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever outbreaks.
We have had the privilege to count on the participation as volunteers of hundreds of people, among them is Francisca Osuna Mayoral who commented: "There have been many cases of diseases caused by mosquitoes and I do not want any more. Before I was in doubt and my children told me that it was a project that has already worked in other places. That's why we cooperate. "
Francisca Osuna Mayoral chose to host her Zancu Kit after her children heard about the success of the other WMP projects.
Another volunteer is Mario Espinoza who supports the project because: "There will be more mosquitoes friends than enemies. My grandchildren are always in my house, I would not want them to get sick of something like dengue. It's a benefit for the whole family, we'll be more secure. "

WMP is working in partnership with the Ministry of Health of Baja California Sur to implement this project in La Paz. Local and national government authorities have also demonstrated their support and approval of the project because it represents a long-term sustainable alternative to current approaches to vector control.
WMP would like to thank Christy Walton's Candeo Fund for providing financial support for the first phase of the project in Mexico, through the International Community Foundation (ICF).
With the support of citizens and health authorities, WMP's goal is to provide communities with durable protection against Zika, Dengue and Chikungunya viruses.

LaPaz is going to be a test for the Wolbachia infected Aedes
some good news. Seems LaPaz is going to be a test for the Wolbachia infected Aedes Aegypti mosquito. Thus we should not see any dengue zika and so on outbreaks. The good news is this does work. And the bad news is though they are making the claim it is long term it has not shown that to be true. Not any of the tests they have made have proven that, in fact it appears for long term as I predicted it would fail. But it does make a huge dent in the short term.
