Here's a place with great equip. for pro and home chefs...I don't recall seeing a pizza stone there but it's sure worth a try, I'll bet they can order one if they do not stock them. This is the closest thing I've seen to a Sur La Table on the Baja! Not a big place but they have a nice selection IMHO.

my last trip there I bought a good quality omelet plan at prices comparable to u.s.

bulk general store
okay, here's my best kept secret for today...
Almacen La Victoria on Ramirez between Pineda and DeLeon I think
they have coconut milk, LOTS of asian ingredients (some of the restaurants must shop there),
spring roll wraps both frozen and dried, tofu, surimi, wasabi, surimi, great goodies!!!
and some general groceries and paper goods. Reminds me a bit of a small "Smart and Final" store that you would find in California.

printing shop
lpg
In order to feed two birds with one hand, you might consider the print business connected with Ciudad de los Ninos (near 5 de Febrero and Revolucion). The print shop supports this program for both orphans and young people whose families simply cannot afford to feed and house them. (Many people believe mistakenly that this "orphanage" is supported by the Catholic cathedral next door; Ciudad is independently funded and operated.) They are wonderful folk, and even though the printing costs a bit more than other large shops in town, it's for the kids...

electronics store lpg
I checked the archives and found El Sonido talked about as a music store, which they are. But, they are also a superb electronics store. They carry a huge array of switches, panel lights, connectors and other various electronic gew-gaws. The kinds of things you used to be able to find at Radio Shack way back when. They also have lots of speakers and such for everything form plugging in to your computer to building an ear-splitting guitar amp. Great store. I've added it to the "Around Town" section of the LPG database.
That's El Sonido. It's on Ramirez between Cinco de Mayo & Independencia.

nutmeg, allspice, black peppercorns, fennel, dill weed. anise, star anise, cloves, cinnamon, curing salt, pickling spice and so much more at any of the stores called semillas y cereales. One of the best and most complete is Semillas y Cereales Guadalajara on Revolucion between Degollado and Ocampo in the heart of downtown. Fresh herbs as already posted, are at the mercadito madero farmers market. And the Aramburo supermarkets seem to carry a larger variety of dry spices than the other supers.

Re: list of stores and sources
lpg wrote:For those who have recently purchased a property here in La Paz, assuming it has come unfurnished it could be quite a daunting task to kit it out considering the lack of renowned stores such as Ikea. While we have a Home Depot and Walmart which offers good prices on appliances and interior, there are other options out there definitely worth bearing in mind. On 5 de Febrero, the main boulevard connecting Las Forjadores and Abasolo, there are numerous furniture stores such as Puerta de Vigo, Muebleria San Diego and Muebleria Ramos. With Ramos specifically specialising in bed bases and mattresses and Puerta de Vigo consisting of a wide variety of living area products and dining room tables, options are aplenty. Yet, one particular furniture store has some incredible offers on right now and that’s Dico, located at the Paseos Mall (the one situated next to the Liverpool Mall). Muebleria Dico has a wide range of furniture, but I personally find their variation of sofas both in material and style a real standout and would recommend you consider them for potential purchases. With their well-published half year half-price sale, you can pick up a top-quality two-seater sofa for as little as $4,500 pesos right now while a complete set is available for under $10,000 pesos. Delivery time will depend on whether the Dico store has the furniture currently in stock, as should they need to ship them in from the mainland it usually takes a few weeks to arrive. The following link will take you to their catalogue, and there you can browse through with the site easily coordinated into sections such as living room, dining room, bedroom and kitchen. http://bajio.dico.com.mx/noroeste/ http://bajio.dico.com.mx/noroeste/ As a real estate agent, I offer assistance to my clients in furnishing their properties after purchases so if anybody needs some help in that regard, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Hi Tom I readed your last message about furniture stores. I owned Casa Parra, and usually I bring some furniture to sell in the store, I you don't mind I can send you pictures when I receive new things. Please contact me in case you want to talk about it If you don't know my store yet, i send you the adreess: CASA PARRAIndependencia 413 Col.
