Hola amigas/amigos,

Saturday is launch day for Mujeres Ayuando a Mujeres - Women helping Women. At
the Holiday Arts and Crafts Event on Saturday, Dec. 11th at El Corazón Cafe we
are launching our products called: Con Sabor de la Baja - A taste of the Baja.
This is a line of ´exotic and liquor based´ jams, jellies, marlamades and
chutneys all made with products recognizable as ¨Baja¨. I can´t believe the
results. Neither can Max. His comments - clear winners!!

Currently I am working with a ¨graduate¨ from the gov´t sponsored crisis
Shelter. She is learning a new skill and getting paid for her time at more than
she is making ironing clothes in a Plancharía.

On Saturday we are featuring Strawberry Margarita Jam, Strawberry Mango
Daiquiri, Apple Jalepeño Jelly, Apple Mango Chutney, Grilled Pineapple, banana
and Kahlúa chutney, and if we can get the jars tomorrow - Tequila Sunrise Jelly
- a product reminiscent of Todos Santos, the Hotel California, the Sunrise Cafe
across the street from the Hotel.

Our labels will be bilingual - Spanish (Con Sabor de la Baja) and English (A
Taste of the Baja). Note that the designer has included the LOGO on each of the
labels. (She is redoing the English labels to reflect A Taste of the Baja)

I´m preparing recipe ideas for these products. One is: Apple Mango chutney (2
tbs.) mixed with 1 package of softened Philidelphia Cream Cheese, 1 tbs. curry
powder, 1 tbs. ground cumin. Mix well. Top with Apple Jalapeño Jelly -
Result: To die for!!

Don´t believe me?

Ask Alejandra and she will tell you about how she made up a batch for herself,
locked the bedroom door, put on the TV and ate the whole thing herself without
offering any to José Miguel (our Mexican grandson)

Please come by on Saturday Dec. 11th at El Corazon Cafe AND the park across the
street to see our 39 exhibitors - including Mujers Ayuando a Mujeres - Women
Helping Women.

Better yet - these make great corporate gifts and souvenirs of the Baja for your
friends and family back home. Granddaughter Natasha will get to take some back
to Ottawa in March.

Thanks to all for your support along the way.

Luiza

> I went to the market this morning and bought eggs (just picked this morning, according to the guy) a bag of beautiful arugula, a bag of mixed lettuces and a variety of vegetables. In addition your bread was being sold. I only saw two vendors. Did I miss other options?

Actually Ross and most everyone else missed another option, through no fault of their own.
The organic store "Sabores de Mexico" is in the same block as Caprichios Restaurant. They are one of the founders of this crazy project. They were kind enough to rep my breads. They have a broad variety of dried herbs and spices, sea salts, homemade dried pastas, sauces, and many other things. They are trying to fill the gap left by Sapore. They even have Mexican vanilla beans.

The plan is for the market to span the entire block between 5 de Mayo and Constitucion. They are open every day but Sunday, so you can check out what they have and they can usually get it if they don't have it.
Erika and Chiara speak English, Aracely not so much.

Letting all of you know that every Tuesday from 11 a.m. until around 2 p.m. Kayle from Pescadero is selling the freshest ORGANIC (picked that morning) arrugala baby lettuces, mouth-watering tomatoes, big bags of fresh basil (leaves only, can you believe it?), fresh mint, squash, avocados, potatoes, scallions, red onions, beets, and more at a table right in front of CAPRICHO'S RESTAURANT on Madero and 5 de Mayo. Prices are right, too. We want them to continue providing us with this wonderful produce so wanted to get the word out. Okay, I've got to stop now to finish my arrugala, tomato slices and goat cheese ensalada. I'm in heaven.

BPO
c. My name is Raissa. I’ve been living in La Paz now for about 4 years and I go
home to Los Barriles ever weekend. I was walking in the Centro last week and I
came across this shop and I wanted to share it with you. It’s called “Sabores de Mexico."
In talking with the person that was at the counter she explained to me
that they are newly created 100% organic STORE that sells pasta, and spices,
vinegar, bread, salts, rubs, liquors, vegetables (fresh every Wednesday),
coffee and many other things. She explained to me that if it wasn’t in the
store, she could try and order it and she was very helpful (since they are still
starting up, I don't think they know what people want yet-hence the ordering).
They help small organic businesses in BCS and promote organic eating. They are
going to open a restaurant and school next door very soon. I was very impressed
by their inventory and I know how many people have been looking for an organic
store lately. Their website (www.saboresdemexico.com ) has a bunch of recipes and
wonderful things and they have been very helpful every time I was there. They
are located in La Paz, on Francisco I Madero between 5 de Mayo and Constitucion
(if you know La Paz on the street one below the Cathedral going to the Malecon).
Please come and support this business.
